An all time Gregory family favorite. During my teens this was the cruise destination that our family most looked forward to. Many stories exist as a result of our visits. Some are repeated, others shall remain unheard.
Block Island Race Week (BIRW) is run by the Storm Trysail Club every odd numbered year. I was invited to join the crew of “Blue Yankee” in 1979. I was 19 and it was the best most competitive regatta that I had ever sailed in.
Nothing came close, and come hell or high water thanks to invites from several friends, I managed to return to every BIRW from that year up to an including 2011. In 2011, I was lucky enough to enter Morpheus and sail with many of the friends that had taken me along on their boats in the past.

Thank you most especially to Lyn and Peggy Comfort who brought me along on so many events sailed on “Amazing Potato”, and Gibb Kane who I sailed more BIRW’s than with any other on a series of boats called “Mutiny”. Great friends to this day!!

One of the great attractions of Block Island is the fact that it basically never changes. Every time I return, I am returning to a place that seems unchanged by time. To use an over used expression. It is “my happy place”!
