I may have forgotten to mention that apparently those three death defying gybes on the way to Bermuda put a bit of a kink in our boom??

Well, it’s a good thing that our plans took us to St Marten which is home to FKG Rigging. These guys are known as the best between here and Panama and beyond.
We asked them to come out and check the boom hoping to here that it was “just a flesh wound”, but before the guy even got out of his boat he said “Oh, that is fucked!”.
So much for ignoring the issue.
So, Deb and I spent yesterday removing the mainsail, removing the mainsail cover, removing the reef lines, and disconnecting the hydraulic line.
Then today, raised anchor and entered the lagoon with the 930am bridge opening. Dropped the boom off by 1010am, and caught the 1030am bridge opening back out to Simpson Bay where we are currently happily anchored off the beach and will wait as repairs take place.
Just another day…

Your entire trip south has been a FUCKINH nightmare!!

We’ve certainly had our issues. But, to a certain degree they come with the territory.
Being here is absolutely worth it. I’m not complaining.

Sorry to hear of another (expensive) repair… but really glad to hear how you are getting Morpheus and dinghy into tip top shape for the mid-winter journey!!

It’s a boat, it’s going to break 🙂 Good that it was only a kink.
Is it fixable, or do you need a new boom?

Bugger.
Bright side: The experts at FKG immediately and unequivocally told you your boom was F….d eliminating any further need for speculation about what happened and what’s to be done. Better by miles for you to remove sail, sail cover, hydraulics, rigging than mother nature.
Keep us posted.

Jim-
You may have heard that California Yacht Club burned pretty much to the ground 2 days ago. A huge shock this long standing Southern California YC.
