Change of Pace

We left Newport a week ago and made it to Maine last weekend.

Along the way be made quick stops in Padanaram, Ma., Provincetown, Ma, and Marblehead, Ma. These are three VERY different places. Padanaram is a beautiful small town with a big harbor and plenty of boating activity.

Provincetown is at the extreme end of Cape Cod and is the center of LGBTQ life in this area. Walking the streets was an amusing adventure.

And, Marblehead, likes to think of itself as the center of the sailing universe. If you take a look at their harbor it’s tough to argue with. There is a 23-year waiting list to get a mooring in Marblehead!!

Anyway, we made it to Portland, Maine last Saturday and enjoyed the weekend at a very expensive dock on the edge of town. Portland is a fun town. Shops, restaurants, bars, breweries, you name it.

Yesterday, we headed out and went looking for something a bit more on the quiet side. Boy, did we find it! Quohog Bay is remote, nearly empty and my lasting impression will be of the total lack of noise here. Silence!!

We pulled in last night with no wind, and when we checked the weather for today realized that we had found the perfect place. Outside on the ocean winds were 20-25 with higher gusts and pouring rain most of the day. Here we had the rain, but the winds were very much reduced.

We shall see what tomorrow has in store for us but the weather forecast is encouraging.

  1. Hey Jimmy,
Spent the day with Dan and Linda yesterday and he mentioned you and Deb were close by in Maine. If you find your way to Boothbay, I have a mooring off our island you’re welcome to.
    Isle of springs.
