It turns out that there is a price to pay for ten years of cruising fun and property neglect.
When we arrived at our Danville house/rental property we found that the back patio behind the house had settled about an inch and had a couple of seriously large cracks that were not there when we left.
Looking a bit farther downhill, we saw that the 25+ year old redwood retaining wall was failing and most likely the reason behind the patio movement.
Given the Covid situation and lack of any type of social program, we decided that there was no time like the present to replace that wall with something stronger and perhaps longer lasting.
That was the beginning of countless hours of Youtube study and what we thought was a relatively straight forward retaining wall project. As per normal, the farther along we got with the initial project, the more we found that needed to be addressed. Soon we were preparing to replace the deck boards that made up the surface of our upper decks, and that of course turned into tearing out everything and starting from scratch.
What follows below is a photographic record of our progress starting in October 2020 and ending just a few days ago in April 2021.
I recognize that this is not something that most would be interested in, but some of you are, and since it just dominated our lives for the past six plus months, I wanted to try to capture this somewhere.

Nicely done…love the blind fastening. What material did you use for the deck planking? Wood or manufactured?
