Camden – A small step back into civilization.

From Seal Bay, we made our way West around the island of Vinalhaven through the Fox Thoroughfare and over to Camden.

Camden is a medium-sized town that has somehow managed to not be totally overrun by tourists. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of tourists, but it’s definitely not Bar Harbor or Boothbay.

It is also the new home for an expanded Lyman Morse service yard complete with launch service, a couple restaurants, a coffee shop, and a distillery that specializes in gin.

Our small world story for today is that way back at the beginning of our travels on Morpheus (2002), we met Cabot and Heidi Morse at Musket Cove Race Week in Fiji! They were far more experienced than we were and when Cabot took an interest in the boat we rolled out the red carpet. They got along great with the kids and we ended up spending a good deal of time with them. Time that helped me learn a lot about cruising destinations and keeping a boat going when far from home.

We’ve run into them several times since then. In 2012 when we first visited Maine, and again just this past February when they sailed into the Antigua marina that we were visiting onboard Gibb Kane’s Bounty. Great people and a fantastic boatyard. Don’t think twice about giving them a call if you’re here in Maine and need some help!

Anyway, Camden was great as always. Here are some photos…
